UK Supermarket Wins Eco Award
|
| In the United Kingdom, a supermarket chain called Iceland recently managed to place in the top three in the 12th annual Business Ethics Awards competition.
Iceland was given an environmental excellence award for its decision to ban GM ingredients from all its own label products and to switch all frozen vegetables to 100% certified organic. Even more impressive, Iceland paid organic farmers for the higher cost of producing organic vegetables but charged consumers non-organic prices.
These changes cost Iceland $13 million last year but the company felt it was worth it to create awareness & support for organic foods.
